Moon Landing 50th Anniversary

Join us at the McAuliffe Center on Thursday afternoon, July 18th, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of humanity’s “One Giant Leap”!

This special open house event begins at 2:30 pm, with hands-on activities for the whole family through 6:00 pm, out of this world planetarium shows, and Apollo-themed films. Our evening will end with a single screening of a brand new film (not full dome) about this historic day, which will start at 6:30 pm in the FSU Planetarium and conclude at 7:15 pm.

Planetarium program schedule:

  • 2:45 pm – Oasis in Space

  • 3:30 pm – Supernova

  • 4:30 pm – Oasis in Space

  • 5:30 pm – Back to the Moon for Good

  • 6:30 pm – Special Film Presentation

Hands-on activities include:

  • Observing the Sun (weather permitting)

  • Exploring Lava Tubes on the Lunar Surface

  • Launching Stomp Rockets

  • Designing the Orion Spacecraft

  • Observing Impact Craters

  • Building a Lunar Habitat

  • Making a Pocket Solar System
